The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Preserving the heart of the city

Happy Valley has been home to Hong Kong horse racing since 1846 and is one of two racecourses in Hong Kong. Known locally as ‘pow ma dai’, which roughly translates as ‘horse race place’, the city was effectively developed around the racecourse.

A race to the finish line

The Hong Kong Jockey Club appointed Gleeds on a 3 year framework to project manage a series of repair and maintenance works to their estate. With various individual projects taking place over a short period of time, stakeholder engagement and carefully considered project management schedules were imperative to the success of the project.

Works were to be carried out to a series of their facilities, including:

  • The Jockey Club Headquarters
  • Happy Valley Racecourse
  • Beas River Country Club
  • Equestrian Centre, including F&B area, museum, MEP facilities and façade system.

To provide savings and limit the construction period, the mini projects were handled as packages for tendering, auditing and management.
