The £25 million scheme is the business’ first appointment for the Betsi Cadwaladr University (BCU) Health Board under the new NHS Building for Wales National Framework for Project Management and Crown Commercial Services Framework for Cost Management.

Neil Bradshaw, Assistant Director of Planning at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said: “The redevelopment of the Ablett Mental Health Unit will address a number of long-standing structural issues, which prevent our hard working staff from delivering high quality services to meet the privacy and dignity requirements of modern day mental health facilities. We look forward to working with Gleeds on this exciting and much needed redevelopment.”

Brian McArdle, director at Gleeds with responsibility for the North Wales region, said, “Gleeds has considerable experience of the healthcare sector and an in-depth knowledge of the challenges faced by the Glan Clwyd Hospital in particular. Our relationship with the Health Board goes back more than a decade so I am delighted that we have been successful in securing two pivotal roles on this scheme. It will undoubtably deliver enormous benefits to both patients and staff alike and I look forward to works getting underway this year.”

Gleeds has worked alongside the Board on other high-profile projects, including the previous programme of improvements on the Glan Clwyd hospital site, on which it acted as project and cost manager via the Design for Life framework, as well as the ongoing development of the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Rhyl.
