Gleeds reappointed to project manage phase 2 at Bath Spa University

International management and construction consultancy, Gleeds, has recently begun work as project manager for the construction stage of a new student residential accommodation complex at Bath Spa University’s Newton Park campus. The works mark the start of the 2nd phase of a £70 million development at the University which will also encompass a brand new, state-of-the-art academic facility.

Phase one of the programme involves the construction of a new academic building and is already underway.  As well as providing cutting edge teaching facilities, digital spaces and a café, the new scheme also features provision for approximately 1,800 m2 of ‘Learning Commons’ which comprise a range of open-access, technology-enabled study areas, as well as social learning space and bookable group working rooms.

Once complete, the additional student housing which forms phase two of the project will provide 56 town houses able to accommodate a total of 561 students. Each house will include a shared kitchen/living space and en-suite bedrooms fitted to a very high standard. They will be situated in a courtyard setting at the western end of the campus, near to the Students’ Union facilities.

Commenting on the scheme, Terry Langdon, Director for Gleeds Bristol who are responsible for the project said; “We are delighted to have been re-appointed to manage the second phase of this comprehensive development for Bath Spa University. Our team has considerable experience in the education sector and we are confident in our ability to deliver both a world-class learning environment and outstanding accommodation for future students to enjoy”.

Construction of the new academic building is on schedule to be complete by spring 2014 followed by the completion of the residential development in September.
