Gleeds has partnered with RefuAid, a charity organisation that helps refugees from Ukraine access vital education, finance, language and employment opportunities in the UK.

Led by entrepreneur Emma Sinclair, RefuAid has helped rebuild almost 1000 lives since it was set up in 2022.  Struck by the fact that displaced professional people such as neurosurgeons, engineers and technical leads were forced to take on work that did not make best use of their remarkable skillsets, Emma decided to channel the power of the British business eco-system, and created the Business Consortium with over 100 British firms like Morrisons, Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and PWC to provide employment positions with prospects for refugees.  Following this successful start for their initiative, phase two involves reaching out to a wider network of firms.  Hence Gleeds will be sponsoring five Ukrainian refugees and offering year long support as they integrate into UK society and rebuild their lives.

Anna Jones, CEO, RefuAid said: “Forced migration is one of the leading issues of our generation. Whilst governments must be called upon to provide safe and legal routes to sanctuary more support is needed to enable people to rebuild their lives in the new communities they find themselves. This consortium displays the amazing capacity businesses and the third sector have to create change by working together to support people and RefuAid are thrilled to be a part of it.”

Chief Executive of Gleeds, Graham Harle said: “RefuAid is utilising the best of the British business eco-system and pulling companies together to create fundamental opportunities in work and education that should help refugees to get back on their feet.  We are a global business with colleagues directly affected by the conflict and are committed to doing everything we can to help.  We are delighted to be involved in this important initiative.”

Some brilliant fundraising efforts for refugees have been taking place at Gleeds offices around the world; Gleeds Cardiff recently raised £1,600 for the British Red Cross and Gleeds Poland have launched an incredible effort; hosting refugees in their homes, donating goods, and creating playrooms for refugee children.  The first of two Gleeds London fundraisers also took place last week, raising £1375, which will be matched by Gleeds.  A second fundraiser for clients and takes place on 9 June 2022.
