Open to all property students at Nottingham Trent University, the NTU CIOB Novus Student Competition will provide an opportunity to work alongside cost and project management experts at Gleeds.

The scheme, recently launched at Nottingham Trent University, aims to help close the gap between undergraduates and their first paid work opportunity. It also supports the Chartered Institute of Building’s Novus initiative, which seeks to inspire the next generation of talent and safeguard the future of the UK’s construction industry.

Bella Platts, a Trainee Project Manager with Gleeds, recently accepted the position of CIOB Novus Nottingham Chair. Bella put together the idea of the scheme and with the support of Andrea Davi, CIOB Novus Nottingham Vice Chair and Kathryn Parsons, CIOB Novus Nottingham University Representative, the idea was brought to life with a Launch Night of over 100 students in attendance.

A shortlist of finalists will be announced in December with those selected asked to attend an assessment day at Gleeds’ Nottingham base the following month. The two winners will be invited to join the company as paid cost and project management interns over the course of summer 2020 and work first-hand on some of the region’s largest current building projects.

Kathryn Doerr, Head of Employability for Nottingham Trent University, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for students passionate about a career in the construction industry to gain practical experience with one of the UK’s leading firms. I hope to see our students making the most of the scheme and would encourage anyone with an interest to apply.”

Meanwhile, Simon Morris, Director, Gleeds Nottingham, said “Gleeds is proud to support the CIOB in its mission to cultivate the next generation of young talent. Nottingham has traditionally had a thriving construction industry and we are excited to play our part in laying the groundwork for its future success.”
