Construction management team take on challenging cycle marathon to raise over £700 for Leeds children’s charity

A team from local property and construction consultancy, Gleeds, has completed a 70 mile cycle through the heart of Cheshire to raise awareness and funds for Leeds children’s cancer charity, Candlelighters.

On Sunday 18th June a team of construction consultants took to the Cheshire hills to complete a grueling 70 mile ride that started in Crewe before heading west to Mow Cop and Cat & Fiddle Road in the Peak District. The team were met with a series of climbs just outside of Crewe but peddled on, traversing some of the region’s most challenging geography to complete the ride in just over six hours.

Gleeds director for Leeds, Steve Green, said: “Congratulations to the team on completing such a demanding route in support of a local, homegrown charity. Not all of our riders are experienced cyclists, so the challenge not only raised funds but also provided some useful training for those taking part!  Candlelighters make a unique contribution to our community and I hope that our input can go some way in helping to bring some light and hope to the families of children suffering with a life threatening illness”.

Candlelighters is Yorkshire’s leading children’s cancer charity providing emotional, practical and financial support for patients and their families across the region. Every year 1500 children are diagnosed with cancer in the UK, 150 of whom live in Yorkshire.

Brian Curran, Corporate Fundraiser at Candlelighters, added: ‘We are grateful to Gleeds for their continued support. By taking on this grueling challenge the riders are helping us support the families who are taking on their own, life changing challenge’.
